New Aptina East Asia Engineering Center in Taiwan Strengthens Asia Pacific Engineering Support

Hsinchu, Taiwan and San Jose, CA, May 4, 2011 —

Aptina, a leading innovator of CMOS imaging technology, in response to the growing demand for its products and solutions from Asia Pacific markets is opening the Aptina East Asia Engineering Center in Hsinchu, Taiwan. The strategic location of the center was selected for its geographical proximity to customers and partners and to bring strength and flexibility to the company's supply chain for increased quality and capacity.

"With our expanded presence in Taiwan we will have greater opportunity to increase our customer focus and speed products to market. Aptina's new center will increase engineering efforts in advanced packaging, test, product engineering, quality assurance and operations, among others to meet the specific needs of our customers and partners across the Asia Pacific region," said Sammy Yi, Aptina's Vice President of Assembly Operations and Advanced Packaging. "The addition of this new office will promote a stronger and more agile supply chain, enabling us to respond to our customers and partners faster."

Taiwan's strong engineering talent pool was a key reason behind Aptina locating the engineering center in Hsinchu. The center will concentrate the company's regional engineering efforts and employ a broad range of engineering functions. The new center positions the company for future growth and complements Aptina's existing Asian offices in Taiwan, Singapore, China, Korea, Japan and India.

Working with customers and partners to achieve market success in the region is important to Aptina. This drive for success and growing market opportunities have encouraged the company to expand its emerging products and technology portfolio for many consumer products within mobile phone/SmartPhone and automotive, medical and surveillance applications.

"As a leader in innovation, Aptina is currently working on many technologies and applications to assist in driving the global imaging market forward," said Jeff Mendiola, Aptina's Vice President of Operations. "The new Aptina East Asia Engineering Center in Hsinchu will play a significant role in enabling us to maintain our customer focus and reach our goals. We look forward to identifying Taiwan engineering talent to bring on board to bolster Aptina's local engineering, R&D and innovation efforts."
